“We would do well to slow down a little,

focus on the significant and
truly see the things that matter most.”
~Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Claudia always thought that life would become easier after leaving the home she grew up in, but it didn’t. At 37 years-old she had learned as a wife, and mother that life is hard no matter your situation. “I hoped when I got married all the fire would stop burning me. God had another plan. From the beginning we had struggles, but God helped me find the Gospel and find happiness through adversity.”

“You must do the things you think you cannot do.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt

Sitting in church Claudia watched as a beloved LDS Apostle President Dieter F. Uchtdorf walked in the chapel. She looked over at her twelve-year-old daughter Adela in tears. “Aww my dear Heavenly Father I cannot believe this!” The spirit was so strong in the room, you could feel the testimony of the whole congregation.
There was a man sitting behind President Uchtdorf, Claudia noticed that he kept looking at their family and smiling. Politely Claudia smiled back, curious of what the man could be thinking. They were used to getting a variety of looks varying between smiles and awkwardness, because of Daniel, but this seemed different. It was as though the man knew them somehow and loved them. Claudia felt a love back that she couldn’t explain. She later discovered that he was one of President Uchtdorf’s security guards.

“Let our hearts and hands

be stretched out in compassion for others,
for everyone is walking his or her own difficult path.”
~Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Claudia wanted so badly to ask President Uchtdorf to give her son Daniel a hug, but she knew he had traveled far and was tired. As a family, they got the courage to go up and shake his hand. She felt a warmth and love from both President Uchtdorf and the Security guard. President Uchtdorf gave Daniel and hug and his Security guard took pictures for them.  The Security guard whispered to Claudia to go to the van where President Uchtdorf will be leaving, then their family could have a quiet moment with him. Claudia’s heart skipped a beat, they shared a beautiful celestial moment with President Uchtdorf. The best part was he leaned in and told Claudia the words that she has known, but needed to hear from someone else. “I know Daniel is a blessing to your family. He means a lot of hard work. But you have to know where he will go after this life we all want to go.”

The security guard gave Claudia his business card and later sent her the pictures he took through email. Claudia sent a letter she wrote and asked that he give it to President Uchtdorf. It wasn’t long after that she received a letter from him. She keeps the letter next to her Patriarchal Blessing. She explains that it isn’t long, but it is a blessing to her.

Claudia has learned so many things from her trials, but through it all she knows that she is loved. “I am blessed. Not temporally very much but how many spiritual blessings He offered me, how many promptings. He sends so many angels to give me comfort. Our home and our life are guided by Him. “The sweetest thing in life is to feel a prompting from the Lord and act upon it.” (President Monson) This is so true for my life. I do not think I would survive without the Lord on my side.”

Life’s trials are different for everyone. They found Claudia has learned that through their trials and imperfections they are a loving, and blessed family.

“We come to love not by finding the perfect person,
but by learning to see imperfect people perfectly.”
~ Angelina Jolie
