Crystal Farish has been posting 30 days of Family History. Today was Talents Passed Down. I love this, because I have found some talents that I got from ancestors that I didn't know they had.Growing up I didn't think I was talented. I wasn't a singer, dancer or artist. It was hard for me to know that other things were talents. I didn't realize that I had so many talents then and still enjoy them now. At 10 years old I had my own little library in my closet. I even made a card catalog. The only person who visited my little library was my sister, but books are still something that I enjoy. I love this quote President Joseph F. Smith said, “Every son and every daughter of God has received some talent, and each will be held to strict account for the use or misuse to which it is put” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. [1939]

My Grandmother Merle Budd's day journals. She gave them to me about 5 years before she passed away. I will treasure them always.

A few years ago I was reading my Great Grandmother's journal and read that she had a love of writing and storytelling. I had no idea. She passed away when I was 18 and it was never something that she did that I saw. She also loved learning and reading. Her daughter, my grandmother also had a gift of storytelling and writing. Her form of writing was journal writing, but she typed in her journal every single day. Writing is a love of mine. All kinds of writing stories, journal writing, and the writing I do the most is lists. I love making lists and I am not ashamed.

A few of the pictures I took of my kids. I love seeing these pictures. They've grown so much since I took these. The picture of my daughter on the top right was taken 10 years ago. The picture below it of my son holding Buzz is my #1 favorite picture of all time, because it was completely a candid shot. He was playing with his Toy Story toys and Buzz is wearing Woody's hat.

I also have a love of taking photographs, my mom always had a camera with her and we have hundreds of photographs filled with memories to show for it. I love taking pictures and saving memories. I have done it for work in the past, but now I just take pictures of my kids. I find a line between being in the moment and capturing the moment. Photographs help spark the memories so we don't forget.

I am so excited to read these books.

I love reading. My dad is a big reader and also my daughter is a lover of books. We have hundreds of books at my house and I will always let my kids read. I love reading Fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction. Being a lover of old things and a book lover, there is this magic about holding a book and turning the pages. However, I have grown to love my Kindle. There are times in the past that I went somewhere and wished I had grabbed a book before I left the house. Right now I have a lot of books on my "to read" bookshelf. Lately I've been reading a lot of Non-fiction and self help books. I'm so excited to start to read some of these new books I have. One reason Fall is my favorite season, to cuddle up with a blanket and book.

Brooklynn about 3 years ago (age 8). I always would find her reading, and eating a sucker.

I'm so thankful for the talents that I was given from my Father in Heaven, things that connect me to ancestors and loved ones. I continue to use my talents and find new ones every day. I do not have a talent in drawing or painting, but it is something that I want to learn. So I am working on it and continue to grow. "That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing is changed, but that our power to do is increased." Heber J. Grant

For Mothers Day I had my cousin draw some pictures that I gave to my kids to depict them and their talents. (my baby wasn't born for another two years). These pictures are still one of my favorite treasures.

My daughter Brooklynn is kind to everyone, she loves animals, she has a talent for reading and writing, and is my super hero.

Cameron loves dinosaurs, riding bikes, going on adventures, and is my little superhero.

McKenna loves babies, she wants to be a mom when she grows up, she is always dressing up, she's a little dancing princess and my super hero.

What talents were passed down to you?
